New Urban Tourism Topographies

New Urban Tourism Topographies: Chicago, Illinois + Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Summer 2010; Critical Spatial Practices; Professor: Drea Howenstien, Jose Ferreira

Modern urban tourism has become not only an industry of travel, but also of mediation. By creating, mapping and graphing new urban topographies based on the current state of urban tourism (which relies heavily on mediation via the internet; e.g. tripadvisor.com and google.com), it is easy to see how the tourism industry clusters and only provides nodes of interaction with the city and its people, often isolating the outskirts.
