Between engineer, contractor, developer, and BIM software, where does the architect’s authorship end? And is her intention ever realized? While this may be able to define more simply in legal terms (because it has been forced to,) where does the architect end authorship and give in to randomness (in the eyes of the architect– but is often driven by fabrication, economy, legality, etc) and should the architect take back control?<\/p>\n
In regards to the photo; Athens and the Acropolis is praised as an architectural totem. But does the intention of the architect still exist? With thousands of people paid to preserve the Acropolis at its most “authentic” it is easy to see that the Acropolis has undergone several permutations from the architect’s plan, via builder via political regime via war via preservation. While I realize that this case study is somewhat different than the argument above, maybe parallels can be drawn between a somewhat new argument (above) and a very old argument.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
While questions of intention, randomness, and authorship have long been harried questions in the art world (maybe starting with a urinal on the wall,) these questions have become more and more pertinent as the architect travels further and further away from the finished product.
