Paso Moya Message Board, Talca, Chile<\/h3>\n

Communication and visibility are integral conditions for establishing a sense of community. These conditions manifest themselves worldwide, on many platforms occupying physical and virtual spaces. A community center is an ideal paradigm at which to \u00a0investigate this ageless concept. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Paso Moya Sede Sociale is located in Talca, Chile. Talca had recently experienced an 8.8 magnitude earthquake. It became apparent that reconstruction efforts were most\u00a0successful\u00a0when the entire neighborhood was communicating with one another as individuals, and as a cohesive group to overarching rebuilding agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n

This immediate need for a connected community catalyzed the effort to establish the sede sociale as a central node, a hub of information and connections. Considering the existing conditions of the site, the fence was identified as an infrastructure which could be built upon, without losing any of its existing functions. The proposal achieved several conditions, creating a secondary street front facade to the community center, \u00a0extending the community center’s reach to passers-by, and encouraging communication between neighbors, with the inclusion of a map of the neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n
